I Will Be Her Friend

Hello. I'm back. I disappear off the face of this Earth every now and then.

So, I'm a LDS missionary home on medical leave. I got hit by a car. A lot of people may sit there and think "Why did this happen to her??" I've never been upset or mad I am home. I know there's something I needed to do in good ol Cache Valley right now, but I haven't been able to find one giant reason why.

I found it today,

I spent my morning at the elementary school. Why? I was helping a student. Why? She only speaks French.

Yes, I said that. She only speaks French.

I went to her class to meet her before school and was attacked by the cutest little girls wondering why I was there and who I was. They took me to the playground to meet little C. I said hi to her, told her my name, the first thing she said to me was "Push me." (In French of course) She was on the swings, so I pushed her until the bell rang, then I had to stop her because she was worried about bein late. I stopped her, she jumped off, and the first thing she did before she literally ran into the class was grab my hand.

So. Precious. (Or Tender as my twin would say)

We sat in the class room, I translated and was helping her understand what to do. I explained how to estimate to the nearest hundred in French and then we started talking. She made me cry. I love little kids enough, and French, but what she said to me was so sad.

The first question.
Her: Are you a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint?
Me: Yes! I served a mission in French Polynesia
Her: Really?! I just got baptized!

That was her first question. She is going far in life. Then she told me something that breaks my heart.

Her: I don't have very many friends, I want friends... But I can't talk to any of them because I don't know English.

I will be her friend. I will help her anyway I can.

This is what I loves the most about my mission; helping others, especially the kids. They are so pure and kind and willing to learn, I will do everything in my power to help them find true happiness. I'll be with little C every morning, just helping in anyway I can.

I will be her friend.

Xxo,
Mo
